Pap smear (as per your age-appropriate schedule), pelvic examination, breast examination, STI screening if indicated, and discussion of any menstrual or hormonal concerns.
Blood pressure measurement, blood glucose and HbA1c (for diabetes), full lipid profile, thyroid function (TSH), complete blood count (CBC), vitamin D and B12 levels. Bone density scan (DEXA) if you are post-menopausal.
HPV vaccination is recommended up to age 45 if not previously vaccinated. Flu vaccine annually. Ensure your tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) booster is up to date. Hepatitis B vaccination if not immune.
Discuss weight management, exercise habits, sleep quality, stress levels, smoking cessation if applicable, and alcohol intake with your doctor. Preconception counselling if you're planning a pregnancy in the coming year.
Dr. Nasreen's Tip
Schedule your annual wellness visit in December so you start the new year knowing your health status. Prevention is always less costly — financially and personally — than treatment.
